It is an injectable solution made with Oxytocin, a synthetic hormone that acts selectively on smooth muscle and is indicated to induce or accelerate labor, stimulate the evacuation of tissues and fluids retained in the uterus (placenta, lochia and pus), promote milk let-down and reduce the incidence of acute or chronic mastitis in female cattle, sheep, goats, horses, pigs, dogs and cats.

FORMULA:
Each milliliter contains:
Oxytocin 20 IU
Vehicle qbp 1mL

ROUTE OF ADMINISTRATION AND DOSAGE:
OXITOPISA® is administered intravenously, intramuscularly, or subcutaneously. The general dosage is: Cows and mares: 5 mL; Sheep and goats: 1 to 2.5 mL; Sows: 1 to 2.5 mL; Bitches and queens: 0.25 to 0.5 mL. The dose to accelerate milk let-down in cows is 0.50 to 1 mL at milking time.

OXITOPISA® also stimulates the acini found in the mammary gland, causing their contraction which induces the ejection of milk into the nipple cistern, allowing its release.
PHARMACOKINETICS: When administered intravenously, OXITOPISA® induces uterine contractions almost immediately. When administered intramuscularly, uterine contraction occurs within 3 to 5 minutes. The average duration of uterine contractions is between 13 and 20 minutes. In ruminants, oxytocin has a half-life of approximately 22 minutes. It is rapidly metabolized in the liver and kidneys, and the circulating enzyme oxytokinase can also destroy the hormone. Small amounts are excreted in the urine without any chemical modification.
IMPORTANCE: The importance of OXITOPISA® lies in the fact that it is a product that induces and improves uterine contractions at the time of delivery, favoring the delivery of the baby, expulsion of the placenta and fluids retained in the uterus; it also promotes uterine involution, milk let-down and reduces the incidence of mastitis.
INDICATIONS: OXITOPISA® is indicated to stimulate uterine motility and induce and accelerate labor. It is used as an adjunct in the treatment of endometritis, hemorrhages, and correction of uterine prolapse, as well as to stimulate the evacuation of tissues and fluids retained in the uterus (placenta, lochia, and pus). At the beginning of lactation, OXITOPISA® is indicated to promote milk let-down, remove milk residue from the mammary gland, and reduce the incidence of acute or chronic mastitis.
